Referring a Student for support
Any student may be referred to meet with the School Counselor by teachers, administrators, support staff, and family members. Reasons for referral might include:
-feelings of sadness, shyness, confusion, fear, anger, or worry
-sudden or severe changes in behavior
-difficulty dealing with family changes
-difficulty with peer relationships
-showing anxiety or extreme distraction
-dealing with the loss of a loved one
Student referrals may also be presented to the Shoesmith MTSS Team or Behavioral Health Team for further review.
Due to the legality and ethics binding school counseling programming, students who need consistent, long-term counseling services will be referred to an outside counseling entity, which will be discussed with the parent/guardian.
